| Abstract | This study aimed to identify the frequency and probability of dry spells in Montes Claros Minas Gerais, considering a dry spell, a sequence of "n" dry days in the rainy season and a dry day, one where precipitation was less than 5 mm, and using the distributions Geometric and negative binomial truncated for estimating the probability of long dry spell from 1, 2, 3, 5 to 30 days occur, separating in classes of 4 days, the upper dry spells to 5 days. To estimate the maximum veranico for return periods of 2, 5 and 10 years, used the Gumbel distribution. It was identified that the municipality has an occurrence of dry spells up to 20 days per year on average every 2 or 3 years, it identifies a greater than 30 days. Having a probability of approximately 38% of sequence of dried days reach the length between 6 and 30 days and for a period of 10 years may experience a dry periods of 49 days, according to the Gumbel distribution. Among the distributions Geometric and negative binomial Truncated, the latter got a better adaptation to describe behavior of the length the dry spells in the city, based on the result of the chi-square test. |
