| Abstract | This article shows the great development that orchards in Aguascalientes had in the second half of the 18th century and especially how the farming of the vine was used as a shield to cover the production of chinguirito—a liquor made from bran and brown sugar that was prohibited. Paradoxically, the release in 1796 of the manufacture and sale of chinguirito—which coincided with a special measure authorizing the grape growing and wine making in the town of Aguascalientes—ruined the old business. |
