| Abstract | This paper shows the relationship between librarians and information technology (IT) professionals (systems analysts and programmers) in library automation process at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). It addresses key activities and competencies of information and IT professionals, highlighting activities where interaction of these professionals is more important in library automation. It describes the case of the relationship of librarians and IT professionals at UFRGS, in which all them work together at Data Processing Center, and the strategies used to overcome the difficulties. It concludes that librarians, systems analysts and programmers need to work together in a continuous process of communication, to develop systems that meet Institution’s and users’ needs. |
