| Abstract | This work of Conclusion of Course takes as object of study the Magnolia tree located in the courtyard of the Museum Joaquim José Felizardo (MJF) in the city of Porto Alegre presenting historical, botanical and phytosanitary information of this tree. The research, which is of qualitative documentary nature, deals with aspects of the urban arborization process of Porto Alegre, from its beginning to the present day, highlighting the Trees Festival. It discusses the insertion of this Magnolia in the Inventory of trees that are protected and immune to the Cutting and Suppression carried out by the Municipal Department of Environment of Porto Alegre and analyzes the approach of the Magnolia tree in the cultural-educational actions of the MJF registered from 1983 until the current days. It highlights the imminent possibility of the disappearance of the Magnolia and considers that it could be more emphasized in the actions of the MJF, being a subject for the development of activities of environmental education as a guideline for the museum’s work. In this sense, it highlights the importance of museums to include the environment in their activities, working the notion of patrimony broadly, in addition to the built heritage. |
