| Abstract | Until now, problems of bantu expansion were exclusively studied from a linguistic and archaeological point of view. Especially, in Atlantic Central Africa, the classic scheme was considering this expansion in the present limits of the forest. The few available palaeoclimatic data did not allow to affirm that the Upper Holocene climate was very different from that of the Lower Holocene. Recently, a few studies demonstrated that the enclosed savannas in the forested areas of Congo, and likely in other areas, were more extensive two or three millenials ago. This fact could have contributed to the very fast spreading of metallurgy in the equatorial rain forest. In fact, this is a hypothesis to consider seriously. I |
