| Abstract | Nowadays, critical reading is a topic that is continually mentioned in educational environments. Due to the eagerness to develop this process with the students, many teachers have left aside resources that unexpectedly could rethink the concept of teaching. Media literacy appears as a proposal to the unfruitful results of traditional readings, because this type of formation, besides developing new skills in students, could be the key to working up a critical thinking in young people. The present work was developed in the macro-project: Teachers strategies for the critical reading, of the Magister in Teaching of La Salle University. The main objective was to analyze the strategies implemented by teachers of Spanish language and social sciences in four District Educational Institutions of the city of Bogotá for the development of critical reading through television commercials. The methodological design responds to a qualitative research with a descriptive explanatory approach. Questionnaires, group and individual interviews were designed; afterwards, this information was analyzed and interpreted taking into account the content analysis technique by Bardin (2002) and the categorization and hermeneutical triangulation proposed by Cisterna (2005). To conclude, it is possible to say that it is necessary critical media literacy for teachers, because those who have already begun that type of formation, lack of an epistemological base that supports their practices.
