| Abstract | Valves belonging to the genus Plectodon Carpenter, 1864 were identified in collections made under the REVIZEE program, off Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (32o55’S and 50o34’W), at a depth of 99 m; and from material deposited in museums. This is the first record of the genus from the South Atlantic Ocean. The transfer of the species Cuspidaria braziliensis E. A. Smith, 1915, to the genus Plectodon is proposed, and a lectotype and paralectotype are designated herein. The shell of Plectodon braziliensis (E. A. Smith, 1915) is characterized. |
