| Abstract | This paper reviews critically the traditional science teaching that focuses just to train scientists, from the new social role of schooling, and the contributions of science education research. As an alternative to traditional teaching, new educational aims related to the relevance of school science are pointed out. Based on the innovative proposals of the STS movement, and the scientific and technological literacy for all, a humanistic orientation for school science curriculum is claimed. Lastly, some guidelines to implement such a humanistic science curriculum in the compulsory education are outlined. |
