| Abstract | Effects of Zinc (Zn) application on corn grown on a calcareous soil, Buri Ram series with high pH (pH 8) and low in available Zn content (0.36 mg Zn kg) was studied. A pot experiment was carried out using a Completely Randomized design with six treatments and three replicates. The treatments consisted of without Zn and with Zn application at the rate of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mg Zn kg soil as ZnSO4.7H2O. Each treatment received a basal application of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilizer at the rate of 200 mg N kg soil 200 mg P2O5 kg -1 soil and 150 mg K2O kg -1 soil, respectively. The results showed that corn grown on the soil was deficient in Zn. Application of Zn significantly increased growth, dry matter yield and total Zn uptake of corn as compared with that of no Zn addition. Application of Zn to corn growing on Buri Ram soil series is recommended and the application rate should be 4 mg Zn kg soil. |
