| Abstract | The aim of this study was to investegate the effects of physical training on metabolics and immunologics aspects in rats administered with dexamethasone. Young Wistar rats were divided into four groups: sedentary control (CS), sedentary dexamethasone (DxS), trained control (CT) and trained dexamethasone (DxT). The rats were submitted to swimming training associate to administration of dexamethasone for ten weekends. Before sacrifice the rats received subcutaneous insulin to calculate the maximum decreased in blood glucose. At the end of the 10th week, the animals were sacrificed for the biochemistry and hematological evaluation. Liver tissue samples were used to determination glycogen. Dexamethasone administration provoke insulin resistance and the physical training reverted this aspect (CS = 0,42 ± 0,18; CT = 0,56 ± 0,22; DxS = 0,18 ± 0,12; DxT = 0,63 ± 0,26). The serum glucose did not suffer significant alterations. Significant differences in the hematocrit, percentage of neutrophils and eosinophils had not been found. Training promoted increase in liver glycogen store (CS = 4,59 ± 0,87; CT = 7,31 ± 0,87; DxS = 5,80 ± 1,02; DxT = 6,25 ± 0,59 mg/100 mg). The physical training resulted in the increase of the thymus mass and in percentage of lymphocytes (Thymu: CS = 70,5 ± 15,3; CT = 100,7 ± 24,2; DxS = 74 ± 16,8; DxT = 82,7 ± 9,2 mg/100g weight bodyl/ Lymphocytes: CS = 65,6 ± 8,87; CT = 75,0 ± 2,23; DxS = 70,0 ± 2,54; DxT = 66,6 ± 1,67 %, respectively). The percentage of monocytes presented a reduction due to the physical training, the DxT group presented greater percentage of this cell than the DxS group. The results obtained led us conclude that: a) Low-dose of dexamethasone promote several side effects in metabolism intermediary and chronic exposure to steroid was associated with insulin resitance; b) the regular swimming exercise promoted increased insulin sensitivity. Therefore, the physical trainind can promove benefices to immune system preserved the effect of dexamethasone for long time. |
