| Abstract | 35 girls (from 1 to 14 years of age) with oxyuriaais were studied to determine frecuency of association with vulvovaginitis and urinary infection. Patients were studied through the following schedule: symptoms inquiry; gynecological examination; bacteriological, micological and parasitologic al studies of the vaginal discharge; urinalysis and urine culture. Symptoms of vulvovaginitis were detected in 57% of the girls and the gynecological examination indicated that 91% had alterations in association with those symptoms, mainly red introito and leucorrea. In only 43% of the cases it was possible to verify the presence of an additional infection agent in the vaginal discharge. In the remaining 57% the only likely etiology seems to be oxyuriasis. Urinary infection was present in only one patient. TTiere were 3 cases of secondary enuresis that disappeared after appropriate treatment against E. vermicularis. Enterobius vermicularis (Oxyuris vermicularis) es un helminto enteroparasito que se localiza en el intestino grueso, en la region ceco-ascendente, donde se adhiere a la mucosa mediante una expansion cefalica peribucal. Para colocar sus huevos, la hembra migra hacia la region perianal donde los deposita. En este proceso, puede desviar su trayecto e invadir el tracto genital femenino, llegando incluso hasta la cavidad peritoneal y causar una variada patologfa que va desde la vulvovaginitis hasta granulomas pelvianos. ' ' 7> ' 9 Se ha postulado que tambien puede migrar hacia la via urinaria femenina, siendo capaz de provocar infeccion urinaria por acarreo mecanico de germenes.
