| Abstract | Local communities are responsible for keeping a large cast of cultivated plants to supply food, industrial or medical needs. Traditional knowledge provides important data for new scientific discoveries, and in this scenario the research on the use of medicinal plants has increased in Brazil, So many ethno-biological studies are being conducted in Brazil. With an ethnobotany one of the most developed fields, due to its interdisciplinary in seeking to understand the interrelationships between humans and plants. The study was conducted at the site in the city of Palm community Cuitegi, located in the state of Paraíba (Northeast of Brazil), in the Wasteland Meso and Micro-region of Paraiba Guarabira-PB. Thus, the aim of this study was to record the use and relative importance of medicinal plants used by the women of the Palm Tree Site, Cuitegi (Paraíba, Northeast Brazil) community. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 40 women (heads of households). We used the relative importance value (IR). Was also held distinction between quote the value of current use (VUatual.) and potential value (VUpotencial.). The informants were asked to sign a statement of free enlightenment (196/96). The botanical material collected in the field was identified, processed and embedded in the Herbarium Jaime Coelho de Morais (CCA-UFPB Campus-II). 140 species belonging to 63 families and this total we obtained 92 indications were recorded. The most cited species was Lippia alba (Mill.) NEBr. (lemongrass) (43) quote. The botanical family Lamiaceae with (10), stood out as the number of species represented. Considering the relative importance (RI), the species that has the highest value was Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf. (lemongrass) IR = 1.75. For parts of the plants most used by women, they stand out with the leaves (440) quotes. The method of preparation used most was: infusion (tea muffled) (215) quotes, decoction (boiled tea) (194). Regarding VUatual and VUpotencial these species the Cymbopogon citratus (DC.)Stapf. (lemongrass) stood out as the VUpotencial. 0.27 and VUatual. 0.77. The indications for therapeutic use most emphasized were: cough (143) and stomach ache (87). The body systems that were most prominent were: disorders of the respiratory and digestive system (217) quotes. About the perpetuation of knowledge in traditional medicine 85% of the women interviewed stated that teaches how it is done the homemade dressings. It is understood that the extensive knowledge about the plants used by the residents of the community to give through the propagation of traditional knowledge shared between members of the same family. However, it is essential for completing more ethnobotanical studies in this community, the conservationist perspective of medicinal plants. |
