| Abstract | This paper aims to promote an exploration of biological nitrogen fixation (BNF), through the adoption of a practice on seeds inoculation using some efficient rhizobial strains, as a way to increase cowpea productivity, enable low-cost production and elevate farmers income. The process that determines a successful inoculation is affected by many environmental variables and intrinsic characteristics strains. For this reason, it is necessary the study of plant responses when inoculated in different environments. In this study, the results found in nodulation assesment are described, as well as dry mass production and the productivity of a “crioula” cultivar. This cultivar, with an indeterminate growth habit is very used in familiar agriculture, in Gurupi – state of Tocantins, inoculated with different strains of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Native soil bacteria can promote grain yield and dry mass, similar to the selected strains and the strain “BR 3267” obtained the best productivity, among the inoculants. However, there must be a deeper study about strain selection of nitrogen-fixing bacteria for climate and soil conditions in Tocantins state. |
