| Abstract | The detection of a lack of progression of the presentation during the expulsive phase, is of vital importance to minimize the possible consequences that can lead to maternal-fetal health an excessive prolongation of the expulsive phase. Currently, there aren´t objective techniques to detect it, using the vaginal touch as the only procedure for it. Objectives: We want to evaluate the usefulness of intrapartum ultrasound in the determination of the fetal head and its descent, as well as to know its indication and the echographic parameters that determine its measurement. Material and method: Bibliographic search in Pubmed, Cuiden and Scielo, with limits of free articles, to complete texts, of the last eight years, in English and / or Spanish. Results: The vaginal touch is the most commonly used method by health professionals to diagnose a lack of progression of the expulsive. However, this technique was unable to determine the fetal variety in 44.2% of the cases. Discussion: Intrapartum ultrasound, emerges as an alternative to vaginal exploration, to determine the viability of vaginal delivery. It was determined that the measurement of the angle of progression greater than 120 degrees in the expulsive phase was related in 90% of cases with a eutocic delivery. Conclusions: The intrapartum ultrasound is an objective, effective and reliable method that allows professionals to determine the position of the presentation, as well as the prediction of the evolution of delivery, helping them in decision making |
