| Abstract | This study is located at the intersection between the teaching activity in school Physical Education and Health Promotion in the context of Youth and Adult Education, a form of Brazilian education directed to students who did not follow the school system properly or those who go to school as adults. This study tracks the performance of teachers with the theme of Health Promotion through continuing education. The aim of this study was to know how the Physical Education teachers, working with this modality have been developing their classes around the theme of Health Promotion in this education modality. The research of qualitative approach, adopted as strategy individual interviews with teachers from the extension course, offered by the Institute of Physical Education from Federal Fluminense University (FFU), and used as a tool of analysis the technical discourse of the collective subject. The results presented point out that the biological discourse remains hegemonic in the conceptions of Health Promotion of Physical Education teachers, having a considerable weight in reflections on health and being healthy, as well as in the teaching approaches with this theme in this modality of education. These findings point to the need to improve the teaching performance in the field of Physical Education in relation to its work with the theme of Health Promotion in the school context, and in particular in this modality, mainly with greater investment in Health Promotion discussions in the Human and Social sciences so as to give teachers a critical contribution to reflect on cultural, historical, economic, and political factors so as to counterpoint the strictly biological view of the body and health by revealing the elements of bodily culture as capable human manifestations and expressions to empower and broaden this discussion. |
