| Abstract | Adsorption capacity of salicylic acid for activated carbon developed from sawdust of vinal wood by the c mical activation process with phosphoric acid, operating under a flo w of air and moderate experimental conditions, is i nvestigated. It is compared with that determined for a commercial samp le. Adsorption assays are carried out using dilute aqueous solutions employed as models of water polluted with metabolit es. The developed carbon show values of specific su rface and total pore volumes (1638 m/g y 1.28 cm/g) higher than those corresponding to the commerci al sample (1200 m/g y 0.66 cm/g). However, the developed carbon shows removal effecti v ness lower than that attained by the commercial s ample. This behaviour is attributed to the lower total content of basic functional groups present on the surface o f the developed carbon, which should exert a predominant incidence on the a dsorption capacity of both samples. |
