| Abstract | The activated carbons are generally obtained when heating or burn, under controlled conditions, carbonaceous materials as mineral coal, coconut shells, wood, crowd, lignite and petroleum. The carbonic material is generally solid and of natural origin. The porous carbons are obtained as a by-product after extracting the volatile components of the carbonic materials by a thermal conversion process in absence of air commonly called pyrolysis. The adsorption capacity is largely determined by the degree of development of internal porous structure, as well as for the nature of the chemical surface of the carbon (acid or alkaline). In this work the possibility of increasing the adsorption capacity of activated carbons prepared by “chemical” activation of different renewable precursors, is investigated by an exhaustive laundry with a solution of sodium hydroxide at 50% (w/w). Were determine that the reagent used was adequate to achieve the proposed objective, that was corroborated with increments of the corresponding iodine indexes, accompanied by a sensitive decrease in the content of ashes, without remarkable yield losses and significant variations in the chemical properties of the treated products, except the pH values that changed to basic, they allow to enlarge the possibilities of application of this products. |
