| Abstract | Background: The surgical procedure of the dental extraction is the invasive technique that most frequently is carried out in the dental practice. The avulsion of the piece is the product of a correct technique, which is carried out by the expansion of the alveolar process, rupture of the periodontal ligament and consequently achieving the detachment of the periodontal insertion. Complications are unforeseen events that tend to increase the morbidity of a surgical procedure which will prolong the treatment phase. Objective: To determine the prevalence of post-simple exodontia complications in patients operated in the surgery service of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of the Americas in the period April - May 2017. Materials and Methods: The study consisted of patients undergoing the procedure of simple surgery, filled out a clinical record, in which register name, age, gender, ethnic group, systemic diseases, drugs used, tobacco consumption and dental piece that was performed the simple extraction treatment. Once the simple exodontia was performed, the patient received indications for postoperative care, explaining it orally and handing down indications in writing, and a citation to postoperative control after seven days. The day of postoperative control was performed after 8 days of simple exodontia, each patient was continued filling the clinical file, observing the presence or absence of postoperative complications. Result: The frequency was 43 percent of postoperative complications of the total of the dental extractions. Complications affected the female gender in a greater proportion and the distribution of complications was the following: 16.24 percent, hemorrhage 11.62 percent, hematoma 6.96 percent and trismus, alveolitis 4.64 percent. Conclusion: The prevalence of post - simple exodontia complications in patients operated at the surgical service of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of the Americas in the period April-May 2017 was 43 percent. |
