| Abstract | Objectives: To identify the prevalence and considerations taken into account to treat patients with arterial hypertension, who attended the Dental Care clinic of the Universidad de las Americas (UDLA). Determine the number of patients with arterial hypertension who underwent dental treatments in the UDLA. Identify the sex and age groups most susceptible to hypertension. Know what are the main etiologies, diagnoses and dental treatments most common in patients with hypertension. Identify the quality of the registry of blood pressure values in the clinical history of patients undergoing dental treatments at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Las Americas. If blood pressure values had been record. Determine which antihypertensive medication is use the most and if it is well written. Identify if the patient is controlled and if inter-consult is perform. Material and methods: Observation and analysis of data obtained from the clinical histories with arterial hypertension of patients who was treat for the first time in the dental clinic of UDLA in the period 2018. The amount of 2656 clinical histories were evaluated, 125 patients were identified with arterial hypertension. Statistical analysis and tabulation of results and statistical Chi-square test. Results: Different points were obtained in a data collection sheet; prevalence of arterialhypertension corresponding to 4.70 percent of, in the possible etiologies found it was possible to identify 13 oral findings, 30 dental diagnoses and 18 dental treatments being the most frequent, prophylaxis. Have into consideration the blood pressure of the patients; it was found that 69.6 percent of was controlled. Conclusions: The gender most susceptible to hypertension are women. The most prevalent patients to have high blood pressure are between the ages of 50 to 59 years, this disease is found at an early age of 20 to 30 years. In the clinical examination, xerostomia was found, which can be the trigger of several dental treatments, and may be an adverse effect of the use of anti-hypertensive. The most common diagnosis was dental accretions. The most performed treatment was prophylaxis. In this study we found controlled patients. |
