| Abstract | In this paper data are presented on the analysis of vaccination coverage practiced in dogs and cats presented by Control Program Urban Zoonoses in Rio de Janeiro. this is developed in partnership between the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) of the University Estacio de Sa and the Special Secretariat for the Promotion and Defense of Animals (SEPDA) of City Hall of Rio de Janeiro, with free care for the public, in the practice of surgical sterilization. Attended the universe between August / 2004 and February / 2006 were included in the study 2.5% of dogs and cats presented. The animals were randomly selected from among those who sought its leaders service in each month of work. Of the 587 animals whose guardians were interviewed, 367 were feline (62.5%), while only 49.0% of these were vaccinated against rabies (180), and of these, 23.3% were vaccinated in private veterinary service (42), the other 76.7% of cats were vaccinated in public campaigns (138). Of the 220 dogs, 87.3% were vaccinated against rabies (192), and of these, 50.0% received the vaccine in particular service (96) and 50.0% were vaccinated in public campaigns (96), 12, 7% were not vaccinated (28). As for multiple canine vaccine, 114 (51.8%) were vaccinated animals; of which, 96 (84.2%) received the vaccine in veterinary clinics and 18 (15.8%) were vaccinated by people without veterinary medical supervision. 367 of cats, only 46 were immunized with multiple vaccine (12.5%); of which 42 (91.3%) with and veterinary care other 8.7% were vaccinated by unauthorized persons. |
