| Abstract | Background: Cancer is one of the main leading death causes in the country, but in terms of morbidity there is no valid register. The aim of this study is to describe the frequency, type, distribution and trend of morbidity and death that have to do with cancer in a concentration hospital. methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in care cases first from December 26 th , 2005 to December 25 th , 2012 at the Oncology Hospital of “Centro Medico Nacional Siglo XXI” from Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, in which hospital deaths and patients outflows were included. results: A total of 74,402 morbidity cases were identified, in which cancer prevalence by sex was 59.9% in women and 40.1% in men and having an overall median age of 59 years old. Radiotherapy was the service with more cancer cases with 22.9%. The most common cancers were: breast cancer 17.4%; colon and rectum cancer 6.2%; cervical cancer 5.2%; and skin cancer 5.1%. The leading type of cancer in women was breast cancer with 28.9%, whereas in men was the prostate cancer with 12.3%. We obtained an overall mortality of 4.91, in which 1825 registered deaths are mainly haematological disorders. Breast, prostate and thyroid cancers have shown a rising trend within the last 8 years. Conclusion : Breast, prostate and colon and rectum cancers are the most common ailments demanding care in concentration hospitals. |
