ABSTRACT The effect on water quality of dissolution of suspended solids generated in trout culture was evaluated. Sludge with a half life of 1 day was collected in a raceway in operation and deposited in a closed system (batch) with a capacity of 20 L. The reactor operated for 120 hours with bubbling air stirring device at a controlled temperature of 14 oC. Samples were taken to determine the concentration of dissolved solids, solid and dissolved fractions of total nitrogen Kjelhald (TKN), ammonia (NTA), total phosphorus (TP), and BOD5. It was established the transference of contaminants from solid to the dissolve fraction. An increase of inorganic species was obtained in the soluble fraction since the beginning of the experiment. The BOD5 shows increases in dissolved fraction, representing up to 47% of the total BOD5. NTK presented a dissolution rate of 0.044 mg N (h * g sludge) -1. The NTA was detected in the soluble fraction after 56 hours, with a rate of dissolution of 0.068 mg N (h * g sludge) -1. The PT was detected in the soluble fraction at reached rate of 0.007 mg P (h * g sludge) -1. In order to establish the maximum time of sludge inside the raceway, we recommend further studies in continuous flow. Key Words: Trout Sludge, Nutrients, Solid Management, Fish Contamination. |
