| Abstract | The author questions the nature of the bridge and the riverbanks from his experience as a translator and an essayist. To many, the bridge is no more a brief lapse one goes through, but a territory in itself. As a landscape, a local –or glocal– world, a headless, weblike world, a world of scattered languages, where private jargon abounds across the Internet and public languages in the media grow more homogeneous all the time; a poscolonial world, where the simple and symmetric politics of the cold war are only vague memories, a world that forces us to constantly digest, pour, reproduce an endless crowd of discourses originally spoken in foreign languages. |
