| Abstract | The Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS), 3b version, was used to simulate the flow in Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region (RMPA) to depict the classical and nonclassical influences due to the ocean and Lagoa dos Patos nearness, and to the 'heat island' formed by the cities. The RAMS was used in a 3-D run with two nesting grids. Horizontally, the coarser grid has 8km cells, and the fine grid has 2km cells. The model initialization is homogeneous and start of the rest, in a summer situation. Three experiments were done: The first one with a coarser grid only and vegetation parameterization setting in short grass; the second one using both grids, with the area covered by the fine grid has vegetation parameterization setting in desert, in both grids; the third one is different of the second one by the addition of a thermal forcing in the first level of the area covered by the fine grid during the night (after the sunset). The results show that lake / land breeze circulation is responsible for the strong meridional tendency of the flow in the RMPA, been attenuated only by the zonal component of the sea breeze circulation beginning at the end of the afternoon. The confluence of these circulations causes a tendency of the mix layer elevation. The 'heat island' increases the convection, with a greater vertical transport of the sensible heat, and delayed the advance of the sea breeze front, however during the night its influence wasn't very significant. /1 Master Science Thesis, Centro Estadual de Pesquisas em Sensoriamento Remoto e Meteorologia, Graduate Course in Remote Sensing, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul.
