| Abstract | This study investigates anti-Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in Santa Ines sheep raised in different Greater Vitoria municipalities in Espirito Santo State. Blood samples were obtained from 236 sheep raised in six farms in the municipalities of Vila Velha, Guarapari, Serra and Cariacica. The sera were submitted to indirect hemagglutination test (IHA) for detection of anti-T. gondii IgG antibodies. Prevalence of seroconversion was 38,5%. As regards age, seropositivity rates were 5,4% for young animals and 33% for adults. Some factors were identified as having direct influence on the occurrence of toxoplamosis in sheep, such as the presence of cats, roaming of wild animals, and hygiene of premises in which animals are kept. |
