This conceptual and pratical research develops a study about the optimal dispatch of electricity, focusing on two generation sources, hydro and thermoelectrics. Analyzes the different generation planning horizons, their importance in real time operation and the applicability of this matter in the energy crisis lived, in 2014 in Brazil. Presents some historical facts over the Brazilian electrical system and its development through the present day. Studies generation cost equations related to thermoelectrics, hydroelectrics generation targets and relevant equations to the Predispatch’s temporal horizon, as well as the simplifications applied on these equations. Presents the systems chosen for analysis, their relevant data for the equating in Matlab; also, information about fmincon, its own equations and restrictions. The study is complemented by the graphical representation of the obtained results regarding optimal electricity dispatch of each generating unit. Results, in each scenario considered in the theses, in which and how much of each mill is to be dispatched in order to have an optimal energy cost still meeting system demand.
