| Abstract | The aim of this study was to identify the factors that explain the degree of acceptance of the Academic Information System used in the teaching staff management support processes at a private undergraduate institution, through the use of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) constructs. A literature review was conducted on Information Systems, Academic Information Systems and the evolution of technology acceptance models. It is a case study, which adopts a quali-quantitative methodological approach and has descriptive and explanatory purposes. Its results contribute to a better understanding of the Information Technology Acceptance process regarding the use of Academic Information Systems in Brazilian private undergraduate institutions, since they refute some UTAUT model premises – mainly the influence of the enabling conditions on the system effective use – in the studied case, suggesting a modified model that might be contemplating the academic context specificities. The work also showed the relevance of the use of triangulation for the understanding of causes of counter-intuitive results or those that contradict assumptions validated in studies conducted in different organizational and environmental contexts. |
