| Abstract | This paper focuses on the use of French in modern-day Cameroon and deals with language practices and glottopolicy as well as the teaching of this language. We intend to shift away from the common practice of linguists who tend to denounce the imposition of a rather restrictive norm. We shall further question if the French language in the Cameroonian school context can meet the challenge of purism without taking into account the “unavoidable linguistic changes”, where there is an appropriation of a language in a multilingual setting. |
