The replica method is used to study the behaviour of random Ising models in the Bethe approximation. In the limit n to 0 the physical quantities depend on an infinite set of effective fields which have to be determined self-consistently. Explicit conditions are obtained for the critical temperature and agree with previous results for specific types of randomness. The dilute Ising model with competing interactions is discussed in detail. Unphysical results are obtained in a range of values of the ratio R between next-nearest-neighbour and nearest-neighbour interactions. |
