Description	Journal: Physics World The probable shape of future responsibilities for physics funding in the UK emerged last month. Following the government's White Paper (Physics World July p4), Sir David Phillips was asked to anticipate the role of the new Director-General of Research Councils by allocating disciplines between the new funding bodies, which come into operation from 1 April next year.
