| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics The results of ESR studies of the exchange-coupled pairs in $(NPr_{4})_{3}Cr_{2}Cl_{9}$ are presented. In this material the (Cr_{2}Cl_{9}$)^{3-}$ anion shows ESR spectra from all the manifolds to different total spin (J=1, 2, 3). A large deviation from the Lande interval rule is found which can be represented in terms of an exchange Hamiltonian H= Delta$ _{1}(S_{1}.S_{2}$)- Delta _{2}(S_{1}.S_{2}$)^{2}$+ Delta _{3}(S_{1}.S_{2}$)^{3}$ with Delta$ _{1}$/k=16.1K, Delta$ _{2}$/k=3.8K and Delta$ _{3}$/k=0.71K. Comparisons with previous studies of this anion in different crystals show that the magnetic properties of (Cr_{2}Cl_{9}$)^{3-}$ are closely similar, despite differences in crystal structure and symmetry. |
