Description	Journal: Physics World The enormous Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico and the network of 10 radio dishes known as the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) are among a number of high-profile observatories that could be closed following a review of astronomy funding in the US. The review, carried out for the astronomy division of the National Science Foundation (NSF), was designed to square the increasing cost of new telescopes with an NSF astronomy budget that shows no sign of rising beyond the rate of inflation.
