| Description | Journal: Iop Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering The production of a continuously cast strand involves a large number of coupled phenomena involving flow, heat transfer, solidification and thermo-mechanics. In this paper, different approaches are described for the numerical modelling of industrial continuous casting processes at different levels of detail, dependent on the questions to be investigated. In the simplest case to obtain a rough estimate of the process conditions, the solidification of the strand is considered with a prescribed convective flux profile in the strand body based on the withdrawal speed. In the most complicated case, the process phase of filling of the empty mould is first calculated, followed by the phase of the withdrawal of the strand including consideration of the flow in both strand and tundish. |
