| Description | Journal: Superconductor Science and Technology The parameters of the electric field gradient (EFG) tensor at the copper sites in the $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}$ lattice (the principal component of the EFG tensor eq and the asymmetry parameter eta ) were determined experimentally by emission Mossbauer spectroscopy with$ ^{57}Co(^{587}$Fe) and$ ^{67}Cu(^{67}$Zn) isotopes. No qualitative conformity was found between the experimental data and the values of eq calculated in a point charge model. This disagreement is attributed to an uncertainty in the values of Sternheimer coefficients for $Zn^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions and in the charge scaling of the $La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}$ lattice. A comparison of the experimental and calculated dependences of eq on x shows that the holes arising from the substitution of $La^{3+}$ by $Sr^{2+}$ are localized mainly at the oxygen sites in the $Cu-O_{2}$ plane. |
