Description	Journal: Physics World Helmut Kohl has appointed Jürgen Rüttgers to head Germany's newly established super-ministry for education, science, research and technology. Rüttgers replaces colourless research minister Paul Krüger who served without much fortune since he took office in April 1993. He is the third minister to be put in charge of research and technology since Matthias Wissmann replaced the long-serving Heinz Riesenhuber in January 1993. Kohl himself was only just re-elected as chancellor by a one-vote margin in the Bundestag last month.
