| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics This paper presents collision strengths for electron-impact excitation of forbidden transitions in the open d-shell ion, . These data, calculated within the LS-coupling scheme using the R-matrix method, are believed to represent the first such detailed treatment of this system. Sixty-nine target states have been included in the calculation, corresponding to all possible couplings of the configurations , and , and forming a maximum of 192 channels in the scattering calculation. Effective collision strengths have been derived for temperatures in the range 5000-50 000 K. Prominent shape resonances are observed in those transitions between the states where the 4s electron undergoes a spin change outside a fixed 3d shell, and these are attributed to intermediate configurations of the form . |
