Ethnobotanical Study of Pharmacologically Important Medicinal Plants

Description	Ethnobotanical study of Bisoi block, Mayurbhanj district of Odisha was carried out during 2016–17 for exploring the herbal therapy to cure different ailments. Traditional people were interviewed with predesigned questionnaires. A total of 32 plants belonging to 23 families and 22 genera were documented for curing different ailments. The dominant families were Verbenaceae, Asteraceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Amaranthaceae. The diseases such as skin disease, jaundice, asthma, snakebite, inflammation, etc. were cured by using these ethnomedicinal plants. Estimation of plant parts used revealed that leaves part represented the maximum percentage, i.e., 58.4% followed by flowers (16.6%), fruits (12.5%), roots (8.3%), and stems (4.2%). They were in different forms such as decoctions, extracts, paste, juices, and powders. Indigenous knowledge of tribal people regarding uses of medicinal plants needs to be preserved at an urgent basis prior to its loss. Book Name: Ethnopharmacology and Biodiversity of Medicinal Plants
