Description	Blockchain technology is in an initial growth phase, with tremendous potential to be used by various industries and research organizations. The privacy, security, decentralization, and confidentiality features of blockchain have promoted its application for extensive use in the health care sector. Recently, the electronic health record (EHR) has faced issues related to the security, privacy, and confidentiality of data. This chapter discusses the use, application, and challenges of blockchain to resolve the problems of the EHR, and proposes a framework for using blockchain technology to resolve them. This chapter also discuss the conceptualization of blockchain technology through four tiers: Blockchain V1.0, V2.0, V3.0, and V4.0. The benefits and limitations of the use of blockchain in various sectors are also discussed. Finally, the chapter presents challenges in the projects being developed using blockchain technology.
