| Description | Nursing Development Units (NDUs) first originated in the UK in the early 1980s as centres for pioneering innovative clinical nursing practice and research. Although in the intervening years NDUs have not become widespread, there has, nevertheless, been a sustained interest in this approach to practice development. Drawing upon the experiences of an established community-based NDU (Middleton Clinic, Leeds, UK), this chapter will explore the contribution that NDUs can make to practice development in primary care.
