| Description | This numerical study investigates the effect on four Finite Element models of a lower canine tooth of different boundary constraints, similar to those used previously by other researchers. The results demonstrate the necessity of incorporating the Periodontal Ligament (PDL) into numerical simulations to produce a valid stress distribution, and that the supporting bone should also be included to give realistic displacement data. Hence, it is concluded that boundary conditions must be appropriate for the particular situation under consideration. Book Name: Computer Methods in Biomechanics & Biomedical Engineering – 2 |
