Description	This chapter discusses the importance and relevance of planning in Digital Transformation (DT). Strategic planning is important because DT needs to be holistic to benefit the entire organization. Successful DT is not possible if only one part of the organization and its associated processes is digitized. However, holistic change while the organization is still in operation is a very complex endeavor. Enterprise Architecture (EA) is integral to DT because it provides the backbone for evaluating the impact of digitizing one business function or process over another. Delivering increased value to the customer is one of the most important strategic goals of DT. Engaging key business and technology stakeholders early in the transformation is vital to strategic planning. This chapter reviews the main activities involved in the planning stage, as well as how to leverage and capitalize on existing and new IT investments. How to recognize organizational challenges that may arise due to DT and incorporate them into business strategies is also covered.
