| Description | Running out of crude oil resources along with increasing awareness of global environmental problems related to the use of conventional plastics is the major driving force for the widespread adoption of biopolymers and natural fibers as green materials. Biopolymers and natural fibers have successfully attracted huge attention of engineers and researches due to their sustainable nature and environmentally friendly renewable materials. Sugar palm or scientifically named Arenga pinnata ((Wurmb.) Merr) is a multipurpose tree grown from South Asia to Southeast Asia and from Taiwan to Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, India, North Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam, as far as The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau and other West African countries. This tree is considered as a potential source for biopolymer and natural fibers. Sugar palm fibers have incredible mechanical properties, making it the preferred choice to be used in biocomposite applications. From literature review, it is clear that no comprehensive review paper published on sugar palm fibers reinforced various polymer biocomposites. This chapter focuses on recent works related to tensile properties of sugar palm fibers (macro- to nanosize) reinforced various polymer composites and their fabrication as green composites.
