| Description | Four basic factors which influence the processes of the fracturing in the rock mass and the associated mining induced seismicity in the Ostrava — Karvina coal basin are the following: the geology, the geomechanical structure, the primary stress field and the development of the secondary, mining induced stress field. In contrast to the classical evaluation of the development of seismicity derived from natural conditions and tectonic stresses at the site, the role of coal mining as a source of induced stresses and thus of the fracturing in the rock mass has been underlined in the present work. An area of the Basin was chosen to demonstrate the development of the mining induced seismicity in the given geological and geomechanical conditions in dependence on the intensity of the mining.
