| Description | In current soil remediation processes, the contaminants are usually removed by abrasion from soil particles using mechanical energy and water as washing medium. In this manner, a fine-particle pollutant-enriched fraction is always formed during the washing process that cannot be remediated by present techniques. In particular, organic contaminants with very low water solubilities, like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), are concentrated in this soil fraction.
