| Description | This paper deals with analysis of excavations coupling deformation and pore-pressure dissipation. The basic equations of the coupled problem, its finite element formulation and the nonlinear techniques used are described. Examples are presented in which supported and unsupported excavations are analyzed using different constitutive models (linear elastic, non-linear elastic, elasto-plastic) and rates of excavation. Finally, conclusions are made concerning the numerical algorithms and the constitutive models. Book Name: Applications of Computational Mechanics in Geotechnical Engineering |
