| Description | Currently, quantum behavior is associated with systems of atomic dimensions. Such systems may occupy only one energy level in a (discrete) spectrum, determined from the solution of the Schrodinger Equation. It has been observed for some time that material domains of phenomenological dimensions, under stress, exhibit similar behavior, in that all inelastic (plastic) states appear spontaneously in an unstable fashion, and exist only at discrete values of the surface tractions. Here, it is shown that these states and the corresponding tractions, are also determined by an equation similar to that of Schrodinger, derived from principles of gradient thermodynamics.
