| Description | This chapter covers the role of nanotechnology in water purification, particularly in the removal of contaminants from water. Nanotechnology-based materials have potential to offer very efficient water treatment technologies. Several water purification devices that incorporate nanoscale materials are commercially available, and others are being developed. These nanotechnology-based products include catalysts and nanoparticles for water treatment. However, nano-based products face a number of challenges. This chapter deals with the practical applications of nanomaterials in water purification. An overview is given of the different types of nanomaterials, including metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, zeolites and dendrimers, that are used for water treatment applications. Different routes of synthesis of nanomaterials are discussed. Environmental and health implications of the use of nanomaterials are considered. Book Name: Advanced Water Technologies |
