| Description | Glare and contrast, two of the biggest issues we deal with as lighting designers, are directly related to one another. Glare occurs when an object in our field of view is overly bright in relation to its surrounding environment. This creates visual discomfort and reduces our ability to see the other objects around it. Common causes of glare are an unshielded light source, like a bare light bulb (or lamp), direct sun (or even diffused daylight) streaming into an interior environment, poorly designed street or parking lot lighting, or car headlights at night. Figure 3-1 Direct glare from a poorly designed lampshade that does not fully cover the light source. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003151685/54e2b243-f733-4d9a-9574-dbc5a3c09674/content/fig3_1.jpg"/> Book Name: Quality Lighting for High Performance Buildings |
