Extending lifecycle in heritage bridge: A value protection design strategy

Description	Heritage protection have been discussed among multi-disciplinary experts and now engineers. Lots of factors become the constraints that must be met externally in the design of the bridge, and for the city residences, the bridge as one of the forms of public infrastructure contains the continuous memory of the city needs to be involved in their daily life. It is crucial to cope paradoxes between heritage protection requirements and visitors' desire to be close with the water as well as historical memories. Centered on the bridge design strategy considering heritage protection, we proposed three main research questions: heritage with the bridge group, with individual bridge and with detailed design approaches. To answer the questions above, the research used case study of Budapest bridges to demonstrate the positioning strategy in group-level. The latter part focuses on the individual bridge cases to extract detailed design approach relating to the diverse functional dimensions.
