| Description | Under axial and lateral loading, static and dynamic, the response of a group of piles depends on the coupling through the soil of the response of each pile with the other piles. Termed pile-to-pile interaction, this coupling reduces the stiffnesses of the group in comparison with the sum of the individual stiffnesses of all the piles. Under dynamic loading, the effect of interaction may be reversed to the point that at certain frequencies, the group stiffnesses increase relative to those computed ignoring the interaction. However, strong non-linearity and inelasticity of the supporting soil, and especially geometric and material non-linearity at the pile-soil interface, drastically depress the above effects under both static and dynamic conditions. The chapter presents numerical results investigating the role of such non-linearities on pile groups, unveiling important behavioural trends in pile-to-pile interaction Book Name: Analysis of Pile Foundations Subject to Static and Dynamic Loading |
